Christmas, as we know, is one of the most eagerly awaited festivities of the year. For the atmosphere that is created outside and inside the home, the Christmas festivities are among the most intensely experienced.

It’s fun to watch trends. But trends don’t dictate how we decorate, especially for Christmas! Many of us have precious decor we bring out over and over again each year. They are tied to our memories and Christmas traditions
But trends may give us a fresh perspective on how to create Christmas in our home!
Trends don’t fit into just one category, especially at Christmas! There is something new and updated no matter how you like to decorate. Do you like a natural and organic Christmas? Or are you firmly in the red and green Traditional Christmas camp? Or are pastels or metallics or bold colors your Christmas preference?
No matter how you imagine the perfect Christmas decor trends try to have something for everyone!
When it comes to Christmas decor, I agree with Solomon who said, “there is nothing new under the sun”. However, there are always new items and ways to translate Christmas when we decorate.
This year’s Christmas trends stem from the last two years of many of us not being about to be with family and friends as much as we want and the insecurity about the future.
This year we want to celebrate Christmas with those we love and fill our home with the beauty, comfort, and coziness of all things Christmas. And we want to celebrate early! According to Better Homes And Gardens are excited to decorate and bake for Christmas in big ways!
Here are the big trends you will see…
NEUTRALS AND NATURAL
This is the biggest forecasted trend for Christmas 2022!
Beautiful neutral color palettes and natural organics will be popular again this year. A walk in the wood, especially if it is snowy is the inspiration for this year’s neutral Christmas decorations
Even if your home is colorful you can create a gorgeous neutral effect. Use one or two colors in your color palette along with a beautiful tone-on-tone neutral Christmas color palette
Christmas 2022 will also feature lots of white with soft greens as an accent. Wood tones and other right-from-nature colors are popular!
PICKED FROM NATURE
This trend started several years ago but it really has picked up steam for Christmas 2022. We are craving less fake and more real! A real tree or real garland draped on the stairs and the mantel

I must add my two cents here! There is no way I’ll be draping real garland anywhere inside, my friends! I did that for decades and cleaning up all the needles with a daily chore. There are so many glorious and real looking faux greens that pass for the real thing they will work if you want that just-picked-from-nature look we all love!
Other things you would bring home from a walk in the woods are pinecones, sticks and twigs, and acorns. All very very big this year!

Frosted decor and flocked greens are all part of this nature walk look. Flocked or white trees will be the star of Christmas 2022 decor!
People just don’t want the bins and bags and boxes of Christmas stuff anymore. Natural Christmas greens and other things picked from the woods are disposable and sustainable.
TRADITION AND NOSTALGIA
Traditional Christmas decor is timeless and will always be popular! So it is always on trend! If you look at the online stores right now like Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, Frontgate, Crate And Barrel, Kirkland’s, Cost Plus World Market, Anthropologie, Target, and more you will see lots of traditional color palettes that feature red!
When we think of Christmas it’s red and green! The trick is to do traditional colors in a new way!
I’m seeing lots and lots of white decor with a pop of red and greenery for Christmas! Personally, I love this look!
Nostalgic decor like Santas and bottle brush trees are big too! Also nutcrackers and vintage Christmas ornaments. To give them a fresh look add them to vignettes, centerpieces, and other arrangements. Wire them into your garland and Christmas tree.

Mix new and vintage ornaments together in a bowl with fairy lights or fill a lantern with them
It’s all about using the things we love in updated ways. When decorating with things you have and love use the words upcycle and repurpose as a reminder.
THE FAVORITE “NOW” COLOR PALETTE
Christmas trends mimic home decor trends. And this year’s hot color palette is a great example.
Blue and white have been a hot color trend in home decor over the last five years and we see it is also the NOW color palette for Christmas 2022! Use these colors to create a moody, cozy Christmas look!
Chinoiserie, that gorgeous blue and white porcelain from China, looks amazing when paired with Christmas greens and a stunning red velvet bow. Classic and so fresh for Christmas 2022! This is an upscale and stunning look! Think about adding orchids to chinoiserie containers with moss and a few Christmas balls around the base.
METALLICS- ESPECIALLY GOLD
Isn’t Christmas decorating about a bit of sparkle? Christmas 2022 will be no exception.
No matter your color palette for this Christmas, add a bit of bling! And make sure to add gold!
Metallics reflect the candlelight and Christmas lights and makes decor look magical. We will talk about the importance of candles at Christmastime this year later in the post.

Brushed or burnished metals, although not as shiny, add a bit of polished luster to Christmas decor. Brushed metallics will be big this year!
Think about using metallic ribbon in your tree and on your Christmas gifts as well as in your Christmas garland and wreaths.
This year pay special attention to the shine and sparkle of metallics!
MERRY AND BRIGHT
If you like bold colors, this Christmas is the perfect time to use them in your decor. Hot pinks, lime greens, aqua, royal blue, and true orange can be mixed together in a cacophony of colors!

This is a young and high-energy look. Not for everyone. But if done right is so brilliantly memorable!
Think about stringing bright colored pom poms together to make a sassy garland. Or use bright colored balls on a Christmas tree. Think about wrapping gifts in black and white paper and tying brightly colored bows on them.

A little merry and bright colors go a long way. The trick is to not overdo it.
PRETTY IN CHRISTMAS PINK
Blush pinks have been a Christmas favorite for several years now. And they are still on trend! If your home decor leans to the feminine side, using a bit of pink in your decor will look so so pretty!

Also on trend, is lavender. Although I don’t see it in the stores. If your decor is French a bit of light purple hues will look heavenly. And lavender will probably stick around and be a big trend color going into 2023!
HONEYCOMB PAPER CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
I’ve been using paper Christmas decorations for almost a decade. I LOVE them! And this year the trend has caught up with me!
Look for things like 3D honeycomb Christmas trees in various shapes and colors as well as snowflakes, stars, and Christmas ornaments.

They are beautiful and can be used over and over again! Hang snowflakes from mantels, or from banisters on the stairs. Group trees with other trees to make a pretty stand of Christmas trees.
If you get one new thing for Christmas 2022 make sure it is a stunning paper decoration.
CANDLES AND LANTERNS
Candles are a very important part of Christmas decor, but this year think about using them in a profession of golden light. Group them en masse! Especially tapers. Tapers are huge this Christmas!

And use lanterns liberally. They will be an important part of Christmas decor this year!

TIPS FOR INCORPORATING CHRISTMAS 2022 TRENDS INTO YOUR DECOR
Here are a few savvy tips for incorporating some of the beautiful Christmas trends into your decor this year!
First, go through the Christmas decor you have and get rid of tired, broken, or decor you have not used in years. This is a good thing to do whenever you bring new decor of any type into your home. Get rid of the Christmas decor that is no longer useful to make room for things you love!
Next, I like to break down what I have according to color. This helps me to see what colors need updating. I mostly have green, red, white, and gold decor.
Another good thing to go through is your faux greens. It’s smart to replace old, not-so-realistic greens with newer more real-looking versions of the real thing. This year I’m replacing my mantel greens so I am looking for gorgeous garland on sale. Yes, it is an investment but will last for a decade or more if I take care of it!
Choose a Christmas color palette and stick to it! This year I’m adding a bit of red to our decor so I’m also on the lookout for red Christmas ornaments.
I think adding things like gorgeous metallic bowls and candlesticks and lanterns to decor is smart! Because these things can be used in our homes any time of year! The same goes for lanterns and ribbons and things from nature.
Do you have a collection? Add to it a little at a time. I’ve been collecting paper decorations and I’ve found a few new ones to add to my honeycomb Christmas trees this year!
Use your smartphone. Take pictures of all your decor! This saves me so much time running up and down the basement steps to see what I have!
